The Ukrainians (Óêðà¿íö³ in Ukrainian) are an ethnic minority in Australia, making up 0.16% of the total population. Currently, main concentrations of Ukrainians are located in Melbourne and Sydney.
Most of the Ukrainians first came to Australia along with other nationalities in the post-World War II wave of refugees from Europe. These refugees were termed as "displaced persons" and first started arriving in 1948. Before then, only a small number of Ukrainians existed in the country.
When Australia abandoned its White Australia policy in favor of Multiculturalism in 1975, Ukrainian language radio broadcasts and funding for Ukrainian culture and education increased within the country.
